Hello March!
It’s the one year anniversary of the great L.A. Shutdown!
Thanks so much, COVID. Ugh.
Can you believe it? Everyday, I think of parents with kids at home. Any age. It’s a miracle they all survive.
I don’t know how that would have gone over here with all the kids home-schooling and running a business, relationship, homestead…
NIGHTMARE SITUATION!
In honor of this grand milestone, this week’s promotion is two fold:
Any client that has ordered five times ( I’m calling you my Goldstar Clients) – you get a 20% discount!
Not sure? Ask Megan. She knows everything.
And
Got kids at home? 20% Discount.
(Minimum 40$ for both discounts)
But you guessed it – we need a humorous story about those kiddos.
The Lee Conger stories from last week were priceless. It’s no wonder Lee is a local celebrity and community organizer. Here he is as a Sunset Santa doing good.
And the menu!

Last week, I said I missed people, and asked you to tell me a story.
YOU GAVE ME THE BEST STORIES!!
I heard family stories, food family stories, daughter stories, art stories, travel stories and more. It filled my heart. Everyone of you who took the time to respond, I am so very grateful. It filled my week with JOY!
This week, we are back with MORO – for the almond orange torte, and FAT SALT FAT ACID HEAT for the pork schnitzel with apples.
(I added the apples)
I have a question for you. Do you know Lee Conger? Lee and I met years ago through the Echo Park Timebank. He’s a big time community liaison and he pretty much knows everybody. He’s been such a champion for me this year full of virus – telling friends, ordering food, telling stories.
So friends of Lee Conger – you get a 20% discount on any order over forty dollars this week! You just have to tell me a Lee Conger Story! I know many of you know him and order food, this applies to you too! Go crazy! Take advantage of your Lee Conger discount before it’s too late! You too, Lee!!
The weekly menu.

What’s for dinner?
Here ya go! Pick up Friday 2.19.21
➺ Valentine’s Day is Coming!
Order by Wednesday for a hug inducing family meal.
Other than my food, do you know what else people love?
Mail.
Send out some love today! Everybody is doing it!
➺ 2.12.2021
First, a little reminder to mail those love letters. I don’t care if you think Valentine’s Day is a made up Hallmark Holiday. I don’t care! I want you to spread some love this week, because you know why. Send a note, drop some flowers to a neighbor, take a donut to the guy in the smoke shop. Kindness is contagious. Let’s all participate in its healing nature.
( Some of my past love letters.)
Check out the Valentines Menu – Yay for Short ribs!
And here is next weeks menu – Midnight chocolate cake. That’s all I have to say about that. Thanks Samin!
From MORO we have Turlu Turlu. It combines a ratatouille with Morrocan spices, add potatoes and garbanzos and hmmmm.
You should try it and report back!
Also from MORO, steak and barley with grapes.
You know the drill!
Note: ordering and pick up hours have been expanded.
Send out those Valentines!

“May their memories be a blessing.”
I have a memory.
Six years ago, I was catering a PETA event at the late Sam Simon’s home in Beverly Hills. It was a tropical theme and we were slaying.
The party was winding down, desserts were being served.
But Cloris Leachman wanted dinner.
She wandered into the kitchen, picked up a serving spoon, and started to eat the mac & cheeze right out of the chafer. I didn’t recognize her at first, and did a b-line to stop this guest from double dipping.
ME: “hello, would you like a plate?”
CLORIS: “Oh no. This is delicious! Is it really vegan?”
Then I started busting vegan jokes and we had a fifteen minute conversation about mac and cheese. She liked the southern variety with an egg in the sauce.
Little did I know.
Chef Dillard was witnessing this little bit of majick. He summoned me to his station the Monday following the job. He was being very serious, not really his style.
He hands me a spoon. And utters these words.
“This is the spoon Cloris Leachman used to eat your mac and cheeze. I cleaned it for you. Take it home and put it on your wall.” So I did.
Here is the spoon.
Here is next week’s menu.
From Fat Salt Acid Heat: Buttermilk-brined split whole chicken
From MORO: Spinach and garbanzos & pork pinchitos moronus -skewered pork tenderloin with Moorish spices.
We recommend doing a bit of a TAPAS night with all of the above!
The Valentine’s menu will be coming soon. Short ribs will be involved.

It’s been great fun cooking from our cookbooks of the month!
We all loved the carrots and ricotta last week, and the onion tart with walnut crust looks intriguing and delicious. They are homebound tomorrow!
This week, we have the celery salad from Six Seasons. It has dates.
I love dates.
From Flavor we have the lime coconut potatoes gratin with aromatics.
I also love potatoes. This recipe has coconut milk, red chiles and ginger.
Place your order by noon on Wednesday!

True story – my acquaintance and co-author of Six Seasons, Martha Holmberg helped me pick this weeks recipes! We’re friends on social through some food justice or cookbook stuff, I honestly don’t recall, but we go back! Yay for social media!
HOW COOL IS THAT!?
If you’re curious, it’s the onion tart with the walnut crust. Y U M
From Ottolenghi’s Flavor we have the tofu korma meatballs. I love trouble shooting a recipe at the expense of others! I won’t go into detail, but you should know, everyone loves this recipe in the cookbook club, despite its faults.
And here is next weeks menu!
Order by Wednesday 8am – send us an e-mail.

Something new for a new year! I’m a dedicated member of the Facebook group, The FOOD 52 Baking Club. Cookies, cakes and sticky buns are all well and good, but… Then I discovered The Food 52 Cookbook Club!
They are similar in that they each feature a cookbook monthly.
SO WILL I!!
This month is Ottolenghi’s Flavour and Josh McFaddens’s Six Seasons.
I lifted pictures from the facebook club for pictures of this weeks featured recipes.
Here is the Carrot & Farro from Six Seasons.

Check out the Eggplant Dumplings alla Parmigiano!
Both available on this weeks menu!

I made a “caldo” with my son over the holidays and it was so good, I put it on the menu this week! I couldn’t see my lil’ button Ida Rose over the holidays, but she’s quite entertaining on Zoom!
Happy New Year to everyone far and wide and alone inside! I love this greeting from 1920 – history repeats and repeats…
E-mail us your order and we’ll get it all set up for Friday.

I’m not gonna lie, the Katsu chicken is fried chicken. It’s one of our favorites.
Do you have a vegan in your pod? The butternut fritters are very tasty and naturally vegan and gluten free.
I’m looking forward to the empanadas, too. Machaca beef and butternut… pass the crema!
